Consuming these eggs may cause dementia and memory loss.

  1. Walnuts stuffed with cement

When in 2012 one man bought shelled walnuts in Zhengzhou city, China, he found broken concrete inside the walnuts. In order not to make odd noise if the nut was shaken, the concrete was wrapped in paper. The seller was trying to earn more money by selling heavier walnuts.

  1. Making beef out of pork

As the pork is less expensive in China, some restaurants sell it instead of beef- and they also use various chemicals as beef extract and a glazing agent to “marinate” the meat in  90 minutes. Doctors warn people to stop consuming these unhealthy products as they can lead to slow poisoning, deformity and even cancer.

  1. Fake green peas

In 2005, fake peas were discovered in Hunan province, China. The peas were still hard after boiling and the water in which they were boiled turned green. The fake peas were produced for three years before the company was discovered. They were created with the help of snow peas and soy beans. They were also added with green dye and sodium metabisulfite (used as bleach and preservative).This dye is banned as it can cause cancer and it can prevent the body from absorbing calcium.

 “Such toxic artificial green peas have been found in Hunan and Guangdong before, but it looks like the news didn’t catch enough attention from the officials,” stated Sang Liwei, a Beijing-based food safety expert.

In China, the officials claim that those are “food safety incidents” although at least one person dies because of the fake peas.

 “In cases like this, where the danger only lies in possible long-term diseases caused by the misuse of additives, it’s not surprising to see lagged handlings,” said Sang Liwei.

  1. Baby formula

In 2004, 47 people were discovered to produce fake instant baby formula which caused death of dozens of children in Fuyang, China, reported CBS News. The formula had small amount of nutrients and was mostly made of chalk. Because of this, the children developed a “big head disease,” their heads became swollen and their overall health was damaged as well.

Industrial salt shouldn’t be consumed by people. But it is much cheaper and that is the reason why 788 tons were sold as table salt. The industrial salt is thought to cause physical problems as reproductive system disorders and hypothyroid problems.

One seller in China’s Guangdong Province used to collect local mud and sold it as black pepper, and the white pepper on the other hand, was mainly made of flour. His excuse was that these fake products cannot harm people’s health.

Around 5.5 tons of fake noodles were made in a facility located in Zhongshan city, China. In 2011, people noticed that these noodles had strange taste. After the investigation, it was discovered that the noodles were made of corn and industrial ink which was used to make them purple. Paraffin wax was also used.

  1. Fake Ginseng

Ginseng root is a very popular medicinal plant. It is used in China for more than 3000 years. It is quite an expensive plant and that is why so many producers are trying to find a way to earn more money. So they boil the roots in sugar to make them heavier and more expensive.

Chinese medicine expert from the National Institute for Food and Drug Control Wei Feng claim that this is dangerous as with boiling, this root losses its nutrients. The tests have discovered that natural ginseng has 20% content of sugar and the fake one contains up to 70% sugar.
