According to the American Cancer Society, the number of people diagnosed with colon cancer in the States will rise up to 95,270 this year alone. And this is just the number of new cases they predict, not counting the ones diagnosed so far. These numbers are devastating and you can’t help but stop and think about how many families will get their lives destroyed on account of this wretched diseases.
When a patient is diagnosed with colon cancer the usual course of treatment is radiation therapy, surgery, or chemo, but all of these treatments have severe side-effects. But people still choose them because they don’t know any better.
However, recent studies suggest that there’s a much better, safer, natural treatment which yields effective results without the adverse side-effects. We all know how health beneficial coconut oil is and it’s no wonder many consider it to be among the top 10 superfoods. Its main ingredient, lauric acid, which is also found in breast milk, has powerful anti-cancer properties. In fact, it is a medium-chain fatty acid that boosts the immune system and has powerful antimicrobial properties.
We’ve already heard about the healing properties of coconut oil, we know that it’s extremely beneficial for our overall health and can help with a number of medical conditions. Its healing powers come from its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, anti-bacterial, anti-carcinogenic, antiviral, anti-microbial, and anti-viral properties. So it’s no surprise it can help in the treatment of colon cancer.
Regular consumption of coconut oil reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, keeps your blood sugar under control, eliminates candida infections and dangerous fungi, stabilizes the insulin levels and helps in maintaining a healthy weight.
According to a study published in the journal Cancer Research coconut oil, or more exactly the lauric acid it contains, has powerful anti-cancer properties. Researchers at the University of Adelaide found that it destroys over 90% of colon cancer cells in a colon cancer cell line in vitro. They have also cited studies which support these results. Researchers during the in vitro studies, use a Petrie dish for their experiments, or conduct the procedure in a controlled environment, outside of a living organism.
Even though it has proven to be extremely effective against colon cancer cells during the in vitro studies, these results need to be confirmed via in vivo studies (conducted on living, whole organisms). Once the results are confirmed we’ll have a much clearer picture regarding its effects.
However, in order to continue with the research they need financial means, which complicates things for researchers, because they need funding from the pharmaceutical companies which see no profit in proving coconut oil to be successful against colon cancer.
The American Society for Nutrition says that the findings of these clinical studies suggest that coconut oil has medium-chain fatty acids which “may be useful in treating and preventing diseases such as osteoporosis, virus-related diseases (mononucleosis, hepatitis C, herpes, etc.), gallbladder disease, Crohn’s disease and cancer.”
Moreover, it’s known that these medium chain fatty acids can help in the treatment of diseases like multiple sclerosis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and drug-resistant epilepsy.
There was a case where a doctor, Dr. Mary Newport, decided to start giving her husband a tablespoon of coconut oil on a daily basis as a treatment for the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s and he noticed major improvement in less than 60 days.
She pointed out, “Ketone bodies may help the brain recover after a loss of oxygen in newborns through adults, may help the heart recover after an acute attack, and may shrink cancerous tumors.”
There are plenty of other studies which support the claims that coconut oil can improve life quality and significantly reduce the side-effects of chemo in cancer patients.
