Have you heard the talk that schools are planning to serve “healthier” lunches for their students? Well they need to hurry up the process because we will present you few countries that are making the U.S. lunches look bad.
You might remember the square pizzas they used to serve for lunch in middle school? But, compared to other countries, the lunches that get served in schools in the U.S. are pathetic. I thought Michelle Obama was all about the healthy foods being served in schools? It looks like nobody took her role seriously.
When kids go to school they should get a good education, feel safe and know they can get a healthy meal. Shouldn’t the schools provide healthy foods for the kids that depend on those meals, because a lot of kids only get meals when they go to school? The U.S. should be providing healthy, whole – grain foods that will benefit a child’s health, not decrease their health and put them at risk for serious health conditions.
These are what other countries are making their school lunches look like.
1. France
They’re serving green beans, steak, cheese, carrots and fresh fruit.
2. Spain
They’re serving gazpacho, sauteed shrimp over brown rice and vegetables, bread, fresh peppers and an orange.
3. South Korea
They’re serving fish soup, kimchi, fresh vegetables and tofu over rice.
4. Italy
They’re serving pasta with tomato sauce, baguette, local fish on top of arugula, Caprese salad and grapes.
5. Greece
They’re serving stuffed grape leaves, fresh oranges, baked chicken over orzo, tomato and cucumber salad and greek yogurt with pomegranate seeds.
6. Finland
They’re serving pea soup, carrot salad, beet salad, bread, and a dessert pancake topped with fresh berries.
7. Brazil
They’re serving black beans and rice, pork mixed with vegetables, salad, baked plantains and bread.
8. Ukraine
They’re serving cabbage, borscht, mashed potatoes with sausage and a dessert pancake.
And then you have the United States who is serving their students mashed potatoes, fried “popcorn” chicken, a fruit cup, peas and a chocolate chip cookie.
On any of the other plates in different countries, you didn’t see any artificial vegetables or fruits. They all had fresh fruits and vegetables. Why can’t this be the example with the U.S.? Fried popcorn chicken nuggets are packed with carbs and sodium and those fruit cups have high amounts of fructose corn syrup (sugar). After all this things we shouldn’t even say that the U.S. needs to upgrade their nutritional game when it comes to school lunches, because the students are our future! Don’t forget to share this information, as you might make a difference.
