Have you noticed the sticker with strange numbers on your beautiful red apple? Do you know what those numbers mean? Well they are really important and have different meanings especially the first one!
Numbers which start with “9” are put on products which are organic. So what is organic? Organic products are grown on soil which is not treated with chemically contaminated fertilizers, pesticides and antibiotics. Organic food tastes better and is much healthier than food that is not organic. We are all aware how healthy diet is important if we want to have healthy body. So, buy the good stuff only. Always try to buy organic:
- Apples
- Kale
- Cucumbers
- Bell Peppers
If the sticker contains numbers which start with “3” or “4”, it means that the product is grown conventionally. Conventional farming is when chemicals and pesticides are used in order to obtain bigger, longer and faster lasting crops. If you cannot afford organic food, you can buy these conventionally grown produce:
- Sweet Potatoes
- Onions
- Avocados
- Cabbage
Finally the unhealthiest products have stickers with initial number “8”. These products are genetically modified which means that these foods are produced by a person or machine in order to maximize productivity. Avoid these products at all cost!
Always support your local farmers by buying their products and you can join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) exchange so you could always know where your food is coming from. Knowledge is power and now when you are aware how the food is produced you can choose healthier products whenever you go shopping!
