We often take our body for granted disregarding the warning signs it sends us, which could actually indicate a more serious health issue that MUSTN’T be ignored. Read about some common signs of serious conditions that are often mistaken for insignificant.
Sudden weight loss
Although it doesn’t necessarily mean that this issue is untreatable, sudden weight loss is often a sign of more serious conditions which include, but are not limited to, cancer, viral infection (such as CMV or HIV), gastroenteritis, parasite infection, depression, bowel diseases, and overactive thyroid.
Unusual vaginal bleeding
Any bleeding that occurs between periods, or spotting that follows the use of new contraceptives, can be an indication of ectopic pregnancy, cervicitis or even cancer.
Shortness of breath or fainting
If your blood iron levels are stable, these symptoms can indicate a blood clot in your lung artery, i.e. pulmonary embolism (PE). Only in the US, this condition claims about 60.000 lives every year. Also have in mind that putting on weight can increase the risk of PE.
Unexplained throat pain
If you are a woman, this could possibly signal a heart attack. Women often report jaw and throat discomfort, nausea, sweating, and unexplained fatigue before an attack, whereas classic symptoms like chest and arm pain are more common in men. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease kills 16,000 American women younger than 55 and puts 40,000 in the hospital every year.
Persistent tummy trouble that lasts longer than a week
If you have diarrhea, cramping, or rectal bleeding, don’t wait weeks for it to wear off. Those symptoms could be signs of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis), which increases the risk of colon cancer. Even ovarian cancer can appear first as chronic gastrointestinal issues like pressure, bloating, indigestion, and constipation.
