Everyone knows that store bought butter is loaded with preservatives and full of calories. All of this makes it extremely unhealthy. Fortunately, you can make it yourself and this homemade version is not only better tasting, but it’s much healthier too.
Plus, it’s really easy to make and it doesn’t cost much.
You only need 2 ingredients:
- One quart organic heavy cream
- 3/4 teaspoon of salt
Preparation:
After pouring the heavy cream into a mixer bowl, fit the mixer with the paddle attachment. Add the salt. Cover the bowl with a towel in order to prevent staining and mix on high.
Check the mixture regularly to get the right consistency. At first, it’ll resemble whipped cream, but it’ll soon start to become grainy and separate into butter and butter milk. Your homemade butter is ready when it clumps onto the paddle of the mixer.
Using a colander, strain off the buttermilk. By the way, this is how you make buttermilk.
Use cold running water to extract the extra buttermilk. When the water runs clear, it’s ready to use. You can shape your butter into a ball and keep in refrigerated. This butter will last about a month.
